Key facts

Repatriation from Turkey to Denmark: what to expect

Turkish nationals form Denmark's largest non-Western immigrant community, with over 60,000 residents whose families arrived as guest workers from the 1960s and 1970s. Turkish communities are concentrated in Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Odense, working in trade, hospitality, and professional services across generations. Turkey to Denmark is an established and consistent repatriation corridor. Turkish documentation requires certified Danish translation for Danish civil registry purposes. The Danish Embassy in Ankara handles consular matters. (Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2025.)

  • Key documents: Turkish death certificate (olum belgesi) and certified English translation
  • Documentation takes 5-10 days. Embalming must be specifically arranged for repatriation.
  • Post-mortem ordered by Turkish public prosecutor (cumhuriyet savcisi) for sudden or unexplained deaths.
  • Denmark Embassy in Ankara can advise on documentation. They cannot fund repatriation.
