(Bahrain Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2025.)

- British Embassy or High Commission in Ankara registers the death and advises. They cannot fund repatriation.
- Death must be registered with the nufus mudurlugu (population directorate) promptly.
- Bahrain Embassy in Ankara can advise on documentation. They cannot fund repatriation.
In Bahrain
When the body arrives in Bahrain
The Bahraini funeral director takes custody at Bahrain International Airport (BAH) cargo terminal. The Civil Status and Passports Affairs Authority (CSPA) under the Ministry of Interior registers deaths in Bahrain. For Muslim remains, Islamic law requires prompt preparation and burial; a special authorisation from the CSPA is required for international repatriation to delay disposition. All foreign documents not in Arabic require certified Arabic translation. Authentication by the Bahraini Embassy or Consulate in the country of origin is required. (Bahrain Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2025.)
Consular support
Bahraini Embassy or Consulate in Ankara can advise on documentation requirements for repatriation to Bahrain. Contact the Embassy during business hours. The Embassy cannot pay for or arrange repatriation.
The process
What happens after a death in Turkey
Call 155 for police or 112 for ambulance. Death is certified by a physician. The olum belgesi (death certificate) is registered with the local nufus mudurlugu (population directorate). Police and the Cumhuriyet Savcilik (public prosecutor's office) take jurisdiction for violent or unexplained deaths. All documentation is in Turkish and requires certified translation.
