Repatriation from Somalia to Netherlands: what to expect

Somali nationals form one of the Netherlands' larger African communities, concentrated in Amsterdam. The Netherlands received substantial numbers of Somali asylum seekers in the 1990s and 2000s. This corridor requires specialist coordination, as Somalia's fragile civil registration system limits documentation availability. Dutch consular services for Somalia are provided from the Dutch Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. (Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2025.)

  • Key document: Death certificate (requires certified English translation where available)

  • There is no resident UK Embassy in Mogadishu. Consular assistance is provided via the British High Commission in Nairobi.
