Key facts

Repatriation from Oman to Saudi Arabia: what to expect

Omani nationals form a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) community in Saudi Arabia, with movement between the two neighbouring countries common for work, commerce, and family reasons. Oman and Saudi Arabia are both GCC members, which simplifies some border formalities, but the Saudi Ministry of Health clearance requirement for the import of human remains still applies. The Saudi Embassy in Muscat handles document authentication. Arabic documentation from Oman is well understood by Saudi authorities. (Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2025.)

  • Key document: Arabic death certificate from Royal Oman Police (requires certified English translation)
  • Documentation takes 7-10 days. Appoint a specialist on day one.
  • British Embassy in Muscat registers the death and advises. They cannot fund repatriation.
  • The Royal Oman Police handles death registration and clearance. Their involvement is required for all repatriations.
  • An exit permit from Omani authorities is required for all repatriations.
  • Saudi Arabia Embassy in Muscat can advise on documentation. They cannot fund repatriation.
