Repatriation from Norway to Japan: what to expect

Norwegian nationals in Japan include professionals in energy, shipping, and maritime industries, and a small community of long-term residents. Norway and Japan maintain bilateral diplomatic relations, with the Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo and the Japanese Embassy in Oslo both operational. Norwegian death certificates (in Norwegian) require certified Japanese translation and authentication through the Japanese Embassy in Oslo. Both Norway and Japan are Hague Apostille Convention members. (Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2025.)
