German nationals in Zimbabwe include development workers, researchers, and tourists. Germany and Zimbabwe maintain bilateral diplomatic relations and development cooperation. - Zimbabwe Embassy in Berlin can advise on documentation. They cannot fund repatriation.
In Zimbabwe
When the body arrives in Zimbabwe
The Zimbabwean funeral director takes custody at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport Harare (HRE) cargo terminal, or Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport Bulawayo (BUQ) for western Zimbabwe. Death registration is handled by the Registrar General of Zimbabwe. Death certificates are issued in English, one of Zimbabwe's official languages. Zimbabwe is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so Zimbabwean documents cannot be apostilled and need full consular legalisation for use abroad. Foreign documents in languages other than English require certified translation. An embalming certificate and hermetically sealed coffin are required for international air transport.
Consular support
Zimbabwean Embassy or High Commission in Berlin can advise on documentation requirements for repatriation to Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is a Hague Apostille Convention member. The High Commission cannot pay for or arrange repatriation.
