When the body arrives in Sierra Leone

The Sierra Leone funeral director takes custody at Freetown Lungi International Airport (FNA) cargo terminal. The airport is located in Lungi, across the Sierra Leone River estuary from Freetown; transfer by helicopter, hovercraft, or road via Lungi town is required and adds to logistical complexity. Death registration in Sierra Leone is handled by the Office of the Administrator and Registrar General. Death certificates are issued in English. Sierra Leone is not a Hague Apostille Convention member; full consular authentication of all foreign documents is required. Sierra Leone is a Commonwealth member. An embalming certificate and hermetically sealed coffin are required for all air imports.
