The Libyan funeral director takes custody at Mitiga International Airport Tripoli (MJI) cargo terminal or Benina International Airport Benghazi (BEN) cargo terminal, depending on the destination region. Death registration is handled by the National Centre for Civil Registration and Statistics (NCCS) at municipality level. Death certificates are issued in Arabic. Libya is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention; full consular authentication through the Libyan Embassy or Consulate in the country of origin is required. All foreign documents require certified Arabic translation. The FCDO advises against all travel to Libya. The British Embassy in Tripoli suspended operations in 2014; FCDO assistance for British nationals in Libya is provided through the British Embassy in Tunis.
