The process

What happens after a death in Cyprus

Contact emergency services (112). Death must be registered with the Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD). The Cyprus Police takes jurisdiction for violent, suspicious, or unexplained deaths. Death certificates are issued in Greek; English-language translations are available from the CRMD. Cyprus joined the Hague Apostille Convention in 2003. Deaths in the northern area require separate guidance; contact the FCDO for current advice.
