Repatriation from Canada to Saudi Arabia: what to expect

Canadian nationals work in Saudi Arabia in engineering, oil and gas, healthcare, and professional services. Canada maintains an Embassy in Riyadh. When a Canadian national dies in Saudi Arabia and their family wishes to repatriate remains to Canada, the death is registered with the General Directorate of Civil Affairs under the Ministry of Interior. Saudi Arabia is not a Hague Apostille Convention member; Canadian documents must be attested by the Saudi Embassy in Ottawa and then by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (FCDO Travel Advice: Saudi Arabia, 2025; Saudi Ministry of Interior, 2025.)
