Repatriation from Azerbaijan to Turkey: what to expect

Azerbaijani nationals have uniquely close ties to Turkey through shared Turkic language, culture, and the bilateral relationship formalised in the Shusha Declaration of 2021, building on decades of partnership. Azerbaijan and Turkey describe their relationship as 'one nation, two states'. Many Azerbaijanis study, work, and reside in Turkey, with particularly strong ties in Istanbul and Ankara. Azerbaijani documentation is closely related to Turkish but requires certified translation for formal registry purposes. The Turkish Embassy in Baku handles consular matters. (Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2025.)
