When the body arrives in Serbia

The Serbian funeral director takes custody at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) cargo terminal. Death registration is handled by the opstina (municipality) civil status office. Death certificates are issued in Serbian, written in both Cyrillic and Latin scripts. Serbia has been a member of the Hague Apostille Convention since 2001; apostille certificates from member states are accepted. Foreign documents in other languages require certified Serbian translation. An embalming certificate and hermetically sealed coffin are required for all air imports.
