Repatriation from Afghanistan to Switzerland: what to expect

Afghan nationals form a significant community in Switzerland, with over 20,000 residents who arrived as asylum seekers and refugees during the 2010s and 2020s. The Swiss Embassy in Kabul suspended operations in August 2021 following the Taliban takeover; Afghan consular matters are now handled via the Swiss Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan. Dari and Pashto documentation requires certified German, French, or Italian translation. Specialist coordination is strongly recommended given the disrupted civil registration situation in Afghanistan. (Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, FDFA, 2025.)
