City repatriation guide
Repatriation from Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates
Specific guidance for arranging repatriation from Ras Al Khaimah. Local documentation contacts, airport cargo routes, and the typical process for cases originating in this area.
Repatriation from Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) to the UK takes 7 to 21 days depending on whether the RAK Police investigation is straightforward or extended. The mandatory police No Objection Certificate (NOC) — required for all UAE repatriations — is the primary timeline driver in every case originating from this emirate.
Ras Al Khaimah is the northernmost emirate and is growing as an adventure tourism and beach resort destination. The Jebel Jais mountain range is within RAK, the UAE’s highest peak, and adventure activity deaths here — via zip-lining (the world’s longest via ferrata), hiking, or off-road driving — add specific complexity.
What drives timeline variation
Natural death certified in hospital (7–14 days): Hospital-certified death, RAK Police notified, NOC issued, Ministry of Health death certificate, MOFA attestation. This sequence runs 5 to 10 working days in straightforward cases. Cargo routing via Dubai (DXB) adds 1 to 2 working days.
Unattended or traumatic death (14–21 days): RAK Police investigate, forensic post-mortem at RAK Hospital, body held in government mortuary until NOC issued. Adventure activity deaths at Jebel Jais always fall into this category. RAK has a smaller forensic capacity than Dubai, which can add 2 to 5 days relative to a comparable Dubai case.
Ramadan: Reduced government office hours add 3 to 7 working days across all UAE emirate cases.

Cargo routing from RAK
Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RKT) does not operate regular cargo services to the UK. Human remains from RAK route via Dubai International Airport (DXB), approximately 1 hour by road. The licensed RAK funeral director arranges this transfer. Emirates SkyCargo operates DXB-LHR and UK regional cargo services.
Documentation required for export (departing DXB):
- UAE Ministry of Health death certificate (MOFA attested)
- RAK Police NOC
- Embalming certificate
- No-objection letter from British Consulate General Dubai (where required)
- Airline cargo booking confirmation (DXB-LHR)
- Passport of the deceased

Key local considerations
RAK is less familiar to many UK-based repatriation coordinators than Dubai. When engaging a repatriation firm in the UK, confirm they have direct experience with RAK-specific cases — including the RAK Police process — rather than only Dubai or Abu Dhabi experience.
The Jebel Jais mountain area, which sits up to 1,934 metres above sea level, can be several degrees colder than the coast. Deaths from hypothermia are uncommon but have occurred among unprepared hikers. Recovery from the mountain terrain can add 1 to 3 days before documentation processing begins.
