A death in that area means a winding two-hour road transfer to Victoria Hospital in Castries, the site for forensic post-mortem work, before anything else can proceed.
Victoria Hospital’s forensic pathology capacity is limited compared with UK standards, and a coroner inquest is mandatory for any unnatural death, as it is throughout the Eastern Caribbean.
One naming detail worth knowing
Official documentation always uses “Saint Lucia” in full, not “St Lucia”. It’s a small thing, but it matters when matching paperwork across UK and Saint Lucian systems, and getting it wrong at the outset can cause avoidable delay.
