Saint Kitts and Nevis is one of the more manageable Caribbean cases on this site, and the reason comes down to two things: English common law documentation, and a federation small enough that most of what needs to happen, happens quickly once it starts.
Two islands, one process
The federation is genuinely two islands with separate airports. Robert L. Bradshaw International on Saint Kitts handles international flights. Vance W. Amory International on Nevis handles mainly inter-island and charter traffic. If a death occurs on Nevis, the body has to cross to Saint Kitts by ferry or small aircraft before anything international can be arranged. It’s a manageable step, not a major obstacle, but it does need coordinating rather than assumed away.
Straightforward documentation, one non-resident consideration
The Registrar General’s Office handles death registration and issues the certificate in English, no translation required. Where death wasn’t from natural causes, the Coroner’s Court has to clear the case first. This is a common Commonwealth process, and it moves at a predictable pace.
The one wrinkle is consular coverage: there’s no British High Commission on the islands themselves. Saint Kitts and Nevis is covered on a non-resident basis from Bridgetown, Barbados, so families should expect to deal with that office rather than a local post.
Getting home
Most UK-bound repatriation routes via Antigua’s V.C. Bird International or San Juan, Puerto Rico, with onward connections. American Airlines, Caribbean Airlines, and LIAT all serve the islands, and direct UK services run seasonally, which can occasionally shorten the logistics window depending on timing.
There are no significant FCDO travel advisories for the federation, and cremation is available on Saint Kitts if a family prefers that route to full repatriation.
